The open air market by the Kianggeh River showcases the livelihood of the Brunei local traders. Local vegetables, dried sea produce and food stuff, local handicrafts and other local produces are found here.

The Brunei Museum exhibits collections of Brunei artefacts and customs, ceramics, natural history, Islamic art and the oil industry. With a visit to the Water village, you will have the opportunity to see a living heritage museum.

It is here where most of the culture and tradition are passed down from generation to generation. The water village with houses built on stilts is the largest Malay water village in the world.

The Royal Regalia which was built to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of His Majesty's accession to the throne in 1992, houses a collection of royal regalia, including the royal chariots used during the coronation and during the Silver Jubilee.

The Constitutional History Gallery displays the history of Brunei's Constitution and the development from 1847 when the first Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation was signed with Britain. It also exhibits a collection of documents from the life of His Majesty up to the time of the coronation.

The Sir Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque symbolises the strong Islamic faith of the people of Brunei and the James Asri Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque was built to commemorate the 25th anniversary of His Majesty the Sultan's reign. Istana Nurul Iman - the world's largest residential palace is the resident of His Majesty the Sultan.

Itinerary

Pick-up from the lobby of your hotel and proceed to visit James Asri Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, and then continue your tour with a stop at the "Tamu Kianggeh" - the traditional open-air morning market.  At the market, you will observe how the local traders trade.   Varieties of local fresh produces, handicrafts, dried food are sold here.  It is particularly interesting on Fridays and Sunday.  After the visit to the "Tamu" continue the drive passing the town centre then along the scenic Kota Batu road which is parallel to the Brunei River to Kota Batu - the old capital of Brunei.  The Brunei Museum sits on top the hill overlooking Brunei River.

Enjoy a guided tour at the museum.  After that drive back to the town centre and embark a traditional boat with roof and proceed for the water village tour.  The boat will cruise on the Brunei River where you will observe the life on the Brunei River with modern Brunei on one side and the living heritage museum with houses built on stilts on the other side of the river bank.

Further ahead you will see the glittering golden dome of the Royal Palace.  Cruising under the connecting bridge gives you the feeling of cruising on a gondola in Venice.  Get off the boat and walk on wooden broad walk to a local house.  Visit to the local house and enjoy light local refreshments.

Later transfer back to the mainland and transfer to a local restaurant for your lunch. 

After lunch proceed to visit Sir Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque - a prominent landmark of Brunei Darussalam.  The mosque was built in 1958 with three-quarters of the circumference surrounded by a lagoon, and a replica of a 16th century Royal barge sits in the centre.

Later, continue the city tour with a visit to Royal Regalia and finally photo stop at the main entrance of the Royal Palace - Istana Nurul Iman, final stop will be at the Yayasan Shopping complex for you to get some souvenirs before a transfer back to your hotel.
