Brunei Proboscis Monkey River Safari - MBH 03

Duration: 3 hour(s) - Location: Bandar Seri Begawan

Cruise along on a local wooden boat into the mangrove swamp, searching for the rare endangered primate-the proboscis monkey- endemic to the Borneo Island and Sumatra. In Brunei, you may not have to travel too far to see these monkeys as they co-exist with human settlements. There is still an abundance of this endangered species along the mangrove swamps, as most of the local community consists of Muslims, who do not depend on killing wild animals for their food.

Itinerary

The tour starts with a pick up from your hotel and transfer to the boat jetty in the capital city to board an opened local boat.
You will cruise along the Brunei River observing the villagers' life on the world's largest Malay Water Village and enjoy the view of modern Brunei over the other side of the river bank.

We will than cruise further up the river, where you will see the world's largest residential palace - Nurul Iman.  Then into the mangrove forest where you will have the opportunity to encounter a variety of marine life - including the mudskipper, river otters and birds such as the white egrets, nigh herons, kingfishers.

As the boat cruises along one of the tributaries, stops will be made to try and spot the rare endangered species primate - the proboscis monkey - which normally rests on the branches of the mangrove trees. The monkeys normally come out near the river in the early morning and at dusk. Later, cruise back to the jetty and disembark the boat.

The tour ends with transfer back to your hotel.
