Brunei hotels and tours

Welcome to Brunei!

Brunei Darussalam is a very small country located in the northwest of Borneo. It is full of little surprises and is arguably the most environmentally pristine country in Asia, with much of it covered by virgin rainforests. Add to this a coastline with 4500 hectares of relatively unexplored coral reefs, a rich culture and exciting cities offering a variety of Brunei hotel, sightseeing and entertainment options, and you have a wonderful holiday destination.

From its unique culture and history to its beautiful coastline and rainforests, there are many highlights in this mystical little country.

The last vestige of an empire that once ruled all of Borneo and the southwest region of the Philippines, Brunei is headed by one of the richest rulers of the world because it is home to some of Southeast Asia's largest oilfields. As a result its citizens enjoy one of the world's highest standards of living with free healthcare, education and housing. Most people expect Brunei to be a miniature Dubai or a strict Islamic republic, only to discover a very exciting and charming country with many tourist attractions.

To accommodate its guests, Brunei has a number of great value places to stay. From jungle chalets, campsites and traditional longhouses to premium deluxe hotels in Brunei, there is accommodation in Brunei to suit every taste and every pocket. You can even use our Brunei map to choose your hotel in Brunei based on its location.

Visitors to Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei, are treated to some fine architecture and traditional water villages. The crowning glory of the capital is the gold-domed Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque that stands in the middle of a man-made lagoon, providing a good view of the surrounding town and the unique stilt village. The Istana Nurul Iman, the palace of the Sultan, is another popular tourist attraction. It is the world's biggest residential palace and is best seen at night from Taman Persiaran Damuan, which is a park on the river bank along Jalan Tutong.

Also in Bandar Seri Begawan is the Royal Regalia, which houses the Aquarium and the Royal Regalia Museum; the Brunei Museum; the Malay Technological Museum, which exhibits the traditional arts and crafts of Brunei; and the ancient tomb of Sultan Bolkiah. The Kampong Ayer Water Village near the capital, an enduring symbol of Brunei's cultural heritage, has been carefully preserved despite the modernisation of surrounding areas. Ideally visited on a Brunei tour, it houses almost half the population of Bandar Seri Begawan and is the world's largest water village.

Nature travellers are drawn to Brunei for the spectacular rainforests, gorgeous coastline and abundant wildlife. Seeing the proboscis monkey which is endemic to Borneo and Sumatra will be a highlight on a visit to Brunei. There are an abundance of them among the mangrove forest along the Brunei River, not far from the Royal Palace, where they co-exist with human settlement. You could also take a tour in Brunei to visit Ulu Temburong National Park which is considered one of the best rainforests in the world with a wealth of flora and fauna. Temburong is also known as ‘The Green Jewel of Brunei' as most of the uninhabited and unexplored rainforests are concentrated here.

Brunei's pristine 161 kilometre coastline is blessed with palm-fringed beaches and azure waters, whilst Brunei Bay, which is surrounded by mangroves, is an angler's delight. Brunei also attracts divers and marine enthusiasts because of the wrecks and reefs which are home to a variety of underwater flora and fauna. There is also an exciting boat ride from Bandar Seri Begawan to Bangar, yet another highlight of a tour in Brunei.
